Am I a Telanganite? OR a United Andhraite?

I am born, brought up and living in one of the rural towns of Warangal – one of the mainland Telangana districts of Andhra Pradesh. I have my relatives and very thick friends all across Andhra Pradesh. Till date, I lived atleast one week of my life in the districts of Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Hyderabad, Khammam, Vijayawada, Guntur, Vishakhapatnam. Except for Srikakulam and Vijayanagaram, I have travelled through rest all the twenty one districts of AP, atleast once. Apart from this, till date I lived atleast a week of my life in other following states of India: Maharashtra (Nagpur - 4 Years, Bombay -10 days), Delhi and Karnataka (Banagalore) - More than Six Months, Kerala (Trivandrum – 4 Months), Tamilnadu (Madras), Rajasthan(Jaipur) and Pondichery - One week each. I proudly say, I can recognize what major Indian language one is speaking (though I don’t understand it) because I interacted with almost all of them. Where ever I went, I tasted and relished the local food. Apart from my own country, as part of my job, I visited USA four times and lived there for almost 6 months of my life. Further, during this little life of mine, I have felt the taste of Regionalism, Casteism, Communalism and Racism - atleast once.

With all the above credentials, I can proudly say: above everything, I am a Nationalist ! Hence whatever stance I take and whatever opinion I express in regard to the AP state separation, it would be to safeguard the best interests of the Nation but for my own regionalism.

Right in my childhood, my dad explained me how the state formed and what prevailing conditions then within the country led to it’s formation. During my childhood, there used to be good meaningful discussions at my house involving my father, brother(s), brothers-in-law and few other intellects on various subjects. I used to be a keen listener and an interrogator of history. I was briefed about the infamous Razakars and the Police Action by the Indian government on Nizam state, Andhra linguistic movement, Andhra State separation from Madras Presidency, The Hyderabad State and Andhra State merger, The 1969 Telangana agitation along with Chenna Reddy’s betrayal and the Gentlemen agreement, the birth of new generation radical students who turned into Naxalites later on, How our family lost our lands because of Tenancy act, separate Andhra agitation along with the Mulki rule and how PV Narasimha Rao is driven away to centre politics. I witnessed and closely followed the entry of NT Rama Rao into politics and Congress’s cheap political back stab. I further witnessed, admired and benefitted by the new age visionary state leadership of Chandrababu Naidu. To put it all in a nutshell, far before KCR formed TRS, I knew the history of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
